Does anyone remember Bakelite bracelets?? I sure don't, but I just read about them in one of my many fashion books for stylish pieces that every woman must own. And now I am obsessed! I found these two on ebay. Apparently, Bakelite was a material that was used to make anything from telephone handsets to radio buttons, to costume jewelry in the 1920's through the 1950's. It was almost indestructible and could easily be made to imitate tortoise shell , ivory, or coral. And now I want one!! I will be keeping my eyes open for ones like these. I think a trip downtown to the Antique Marketplace & Cafe is in store for me!
